Jayshree Ramachandran

Jayshree Ramachandran is an accomplished Carnatic Music Vocalist from Mumbai, India. Jayshree inherits her talent from a family where music has been the way of life for generations. Jayshree was initiated into music by her late mother Smt. Mangalam Muthuswamy, a distinguished Veena player of international repute from Mumbai.

Blessed with natural talent and flair for the art form, and endowed with a powerful and melodious voice , Jayshree considers herself indeed very fortunate to have been under the tutelage and guidance of stalwarts of Carnatic Music. Their guidance and inspiration, combined with her dedication and innovative search of excellence have shaped her into a high-calibre artiste.

Jayshree arrived in Melbourne in 1989. Since her arrival, Jayshree has contributed enormously to the cultural scene here in Australia, both as a distinguished performer and as a devoted teacher. Her performance has won her several awards and accolades both locally, interstate across Australia and overseas.

Jayshree was the recipient of the Victorian award for Excellence in Multicultural Affairs in 2007, in recognition of her meritorious service and exemplary commitment to Victoria's multicultural community. The award acknowledges the important role Jayshree has played in promoting the awareness of cultural diversity and contributing to a culture of mutual respect and understanding.

Jayshree also received the “Arumuga Navalar Award” in 2004 from the Tamil Society of Victoria for her invaluable contributions to the arts community.

Jayshree has also proven her talent in the arena of classical dance performances. She has made invaluable contributions as a vocal performing artist for numerous dance dramas and individual solo performances. She has performed regularly for Dr. Chandrabhanu’s Bharatalaya Academy since 1994. She was awarded the Natyakala Choodamani Award in 1999 in recognition of her invaluable contribution to dance music.

Jayshree continues to nourish and nurture the art form through dedicated performance and teaching.
