Acktshan Vasavan

Acktshan hails from a family with a long involvement in Carnatic music. He developed his own interest in both Eastern and Western music forms from a very young age. He commenced his mridangam training under the guidance of Sri Balasri Rasiah at the age of seven. Since learning how to play mridangam, Acktshan has performed in countless school concerts and music festivals including the annual Thyagaraja Aradhana. From a young age, Acktshan has also received master classes under Sri T.R. Sundaresan in both Australia and India. He performed his mridanga arangetram in 2011 under the guidance of both Sri Balasri Rasiah and Sri T.R. Sundaresan. In addition, he has made frequent visits to the Chennai December Music Festival.

Acktshan has been learning Carnatic vocal with Smt Rama Sivarajah since 2007 and features regularly in the performances of the Kavin Kalai Music Academy. He is an extremely versatile percussionist, with skills in Drumkit. Acktshan received a music scholarship in 2004 to Ivanhoe Grammar School where he maintained a strong commitment to the school’s music programme.

Acktshan is currently in his final year of Bachelors of Engineering (Civil and Infrastructure) (Honours) at RMIT.
